I don't know why I do this to myself. I pick these books that are high on the sexual activity spectrum even though I can barely get through scenes without blushing and having to skim read.What did I expect from this book that was published in 2012? A lot of explicit scenes. Because I did read this author's most recent book 'The Sex Therapist Next Door.' But I got a lot more.I literally cried hard. Ugly cry. The romance aspect of this book really kicked me in the gut. Oh the ANGST when done SO RIGHT hurts SO GOOD. How could this type of book get me so emotional?!I liked these ladies. I liked who they were despite and maybe because OF their backgrounds. I liked their meeting and their chemistry. I liked their damage and baggage. And I liked their kinky passion. (IF ONLY).So pretty much really loved this book. I wanted to give it a 4 because there was too much sex to embarrassingly get through. But how could I knock it off for that when it was on purpose and written so well? So to my complete surprise, this is a 5. But you all already have probably known that since the beginning of the decade. Being a lesbian myself, I googled Lesbian novels to see what there was to offer. This little book by Meghan O'Brien popped up called, "The Night Off". One review stood out referring to this book as the lesbian 50 Shades of Grey. Although I never read 50 Shades of Grey, I knew enough to know that it was kinky AF. DONE. With no hesitation, I pulled the trigger and bought the Kindle version of, voila, "The Night Out."Okay guys, (breathe). PHEW! Off the bat, the sex scenes were nothing short of INTENSE. I literally couldn't breathe as soon as I opened Page 1. Throughout the whole first chapter, I clenched my teeth and clutched my blanket the entire time, mind you, my girlfriend was right next to me in bed and asked if I was constipated. I told her that I was actually the opposite of constipated and almost ripped her little pajamas off her body, but I also couldn't put the book down - I possibly COULD NOT be distracted by my girlfriend when I was presented with the extreme sexual chemistry of Emily and Nat. C'mon now!Not gonna give any spoilers, but I believe every lesbian should read this book. If you're vanilla, maybe you shouldn't. But if you're a freak who enjoys romance novels, this is it. It's a sweet read. A short read, but compelling nonetheless. Wish it had more character development because I actually REALLY loved the characters, but O'Brien still gave enough to have me fall head over heels in love with the mains: Emily (femme) and Nat (butch).If you're tinkering with the idea of buying this book, don't. Just get it and read it. You won't regret it.
