My Review:It's official....Kindle Alexander just went onto my auto-buy author list. Whoa! This book was SOOOO GOOD! And such a surprise. There was a twist in it that I sure didn't see coming. Wow!This book is about Trent and Gage...two guys who couldn't be more different. Gage is a hugely famous photographic journalist who's about to break his final story and is preparing for retirement by opening up an art gallery. He's had a life of casual hook-ups....NEVER anything more than one night stands.Trent is an electrician. He owns his own business, but is a blue-collar guy....definitely doesn't live anywhere close to the same world as Gage. AND he doesn't even get casual hook-ups anymore. Four years ago, his sister died during childbirth leaving his niece and nephew as orphans and since then they've been his life. He's given everything about his gay lifestyle up to become their father and a good example for them. He keeps his lives very separate...business, family, and sex...sex always coming in last on his priorities. When he meets Gage, he breaks his personal rules, needing just a bit of physical release, not even daring to hope for more.What I loved about this book is how all-in Gage is from the very beginning, which is so against the way that he's ever been before. Gage immediately knows he wants it all with Trent, but Trent doesn't trust that. Not only does he have to protect his own heart, but he has two kids to watch out for on top of a business that they all rely on for their day-to-day ability to put food on the table and a roof over their heads. Everything about this scenario worked for me. My heart melted for Trent because absolutely, his kids come first. Seriously, how can you not love that about a guy? But even with that, his feelings for Gage are so incredibly strong....it honestly scares him. He's also dealing with the anniversary of his sister's death as he approaches his daughter's birthday in the book. Kindle Alexander did a brilliant job of showing the bittersweet contrast for all the characters in the book as they approach that date.Then there's the whole twist to the book. Don't worry, I'm not going to spoil it. Somehow I knew something was coming, but OMG, I truly did not expect that. Wow! Incredible twist which created for some amazing suspense about how this is all going to turn out.I loved this book! Everything about it was just perfection...great characters, suprises, and the story...seriously, it was so sweet and romantic and just really good reading. And everything about the writing was fabulous. I love it when an author can totally immerse me into his/her world and she definitely does that here. Again I say, you will never see another Kindle Alexander book that doesn't grace my reading pile. She's my newest auto-buy author!! This book left me rather torn. On the up side, I really liked Gage and Trent and thought the scenes between them were quite sweet (FYI -- the romance was lovely, the sex scenes were pretty standard but nothing to write home about). On the down side, this book is one of the most blatant examples of "insta-love" I've encountered to date. I've read several Kindle Alexander books and the quick fall is par for the course for her stories, but this was beyond comprehension and, even worse, truly did not fit in with the personalities of either character. Also, while the twist in the backstory did surprise me, the backstory itself was mostly boring...so much so that I skipped over most of those parts. While it provided the requisite "bump in the road" and tied the characters together in an unexpected way, I think it was entirely superfluous. The time and attention given to that part of the storyline would've been much better spent in creating a more realistic timeline for these two to fall in love and, as with any relationship, there were plenty of opportunities within their day-to-day lives, work, family relationships, etc. to create friction without it.Bottom line...overall, I enjoyed the story and am not sorry I purchased the book. I would recommend it, but only with fair warning about the issues outlined above.
