It was the cover that got me interested. I read the Adamson All-Boys School series and loved it, but this book is... a true horror story. It's well written, but I keep almost putting it down because it's making me sick how dark this is. I've kept reading to find out if the main character is going to be ok, and because really it's riveting drama. Bernie's not trading just a year in their beds for revenge, she's trading a lifetime of slavery to one of them and full membership in their real AF gang. And she thinks it's worth it. Her life is that bad. Suicide is a very prevalent part of the plot for more than one reason, and the depravity and despair is so thick in this novel that the real question is 'why haven't more of them killed themselves?'The sex itself will be consensual, says the author, but she doesn't mention that there are sexual things in the book that are not consensual. I don't care if Bernie agreed in the beginning to do what she's told, if clothes come off when she doesn't want them to, I'm labeling it as not consensual.I'm about a third of the way through, and I honestly have no idea if I'll be able to finish this one. The author put her own disclaimer in the front of the book to say this is darker than her other series, and I think maybe I should have listened, but I'm gonna torture myself a little more and keep reading for a while. This is definitely not my idea of entertaining reading. So why did I buy it you ask? Well two reasons. One: I really liked the cover. Yeah, dumb reason I know. Two: I have gotten other books with this theme and enjoyed them. I just didn't expect such brutality. I couldn't even finish the first chapter. Then I jumped to the last four chapters and forced myself to read them. I was left with the thought that they all should (and I mean all three schools) be put out of their misery. I have zero interest in what happens next.
